Catalogue Entry

Vessel made of cobalt core-formed glass. A flattened version of cat. No. 33's shape. Yellow and white glass threads form a swirling pattern from shoulder to base, arrayed up and down into a feather pattern. The neck and mouth rim area are circled in horizontal bands of yellow glass which have not fired fully onto the jar. The walls of both sides have cylindrical attached pillars of cobalt glass wrapped in yellow glass threads, with the both ends of the cobalt glass pillars formed into handles and supporting feet. This type of flat aryballos jar shape was particular to the 4th to 3rd centuries BC. The jar is coated overall in a silver and light yellowish green iridescence.
