Catalogue Entry

Vessel made of dark cobalt core-formed glass. The same alabastron shape as seen at cat. No. 36, with some vessel shape changes attributable to its later date. This bottle has a swelling lower body which descends to a pointed base to form a spindle shape. The shoulders are not formed as such but extend directly into the cylindrical neck which then is formed into a flat disk-shaped mouth rim. A pair of flat, perpendicular handles made of dark cobalt glass are attached to the transitional shoulder area. These are a degeneration of the handle form seen on cat. No. 36. A single threads of turquoise glass extends in a spiral pattern from the mouth rim area to the protruding base, with the central area formed into a repeated festoon pattern.
