黄色がかった透明ガラスの紐を右、左、右とねじりながら長く伸ばし、最後は輪を作る。反対側には小さな鳥を付け、その頭や背中には水色と黄色のガラスをあしらう。この作品と良く似たものがアメリカのニューアーク・ミュージアムに所蔵され、そちらは長い棒の部分に別なガラスで作った円環が通っている。おそらく、細長い瓶の化粧品を取るためにこの棒があり、円環はストッパーの役割を果たしたのであろうか。天辺のキュートな鳥は、ちょうど頭が指で持ち易い形となっている。
Catalogue Entry
A rod of yellowish translucent glass was twisted right, left and then right as it was stretched longer, and then finished into a circle at the end. The other end of the rod has a small bird attached to it and its head and back are decorated with turquoise and yellow glass. A work that closely resembles this rod is in the Newark Museum of Art, New Jersey, but that work has a separately formed glass ring which slides along the rod. These rods would have probably been used to take cosmetics out of tall thin bottles, and it is possible that the glass ring was used as a stopper.
The cute bird on the Miho rod is just the right shape to be easily grasped by the holder's fingers.
