信楽大壺 銘 やなぎしがらきおおつぼ やなぎ

口頸部は全欠するものの、たっぷりとした器形はやや大ぶりの壼であったことを思わせる。長石粒が噴き出してよく焼き締まった濃褐色の器肌を呈し、降りかかった灰が鮮緑色の豪快な釉雪崩となって流れ落ちている。底裏にも火が廻り、そこまで達した釉溜まりがひっつきとなっている。流れ落ちる釉雪崩が一つの見どころとなったこの壼に、土門 拳氏は「やなぎ」と銘をつけている。

The entire neck and mouth area has been lost on this relatively large jar, but its full, replete shape can be seen in the remaining torso. Feldspar fragments have burst fully from the surface of this well-fired jar, and the clay surface is a dark brown color. Ash fell and melted into splendid flows of bright green natural ash glaze. Coil-built from five layers of coiled clay, this jar has a flat base. The fire also touched the base of the jar, and the pooling of glaze that reached the base adhered to the base. The jar walls are thick and the piece is weighty. Domon Ken named this jar with its rich flow of glaze, Yanagi, or "willow" in Japanese.
