This jar with cypress fence pattern has a curving, everted wide mouth. The clay is rough with a great deal of feldspar and silica inclusions. The jar was lightly fired and there are a considerable number of stone bursts and cracks. The pattern is a double cypress fence pattern, in the older style known as the arrow feather form. The jar was coil-built and has a flat base. The ash has changed since firing and largely flaked off, leaving a whitened, sere effect. The jar has an extremely desolate and lonely feel. A character resembling "kiln" in Japanese was carved in the whitened dried glaze section on the shoulder.
