Catalogue Entry

A “bin‐kake" brazier is the device used to suspend an iron kettle over a brazier or small brazier, and this example would have been used in a waiting room, during a simplified tray‐based tea ceremony, or at an outdoor tea ceremony. This bin‐kake brazier is made to look like opening lotus leaves, and the repairs on its edges add to its sere patina of elegance.
