Catalogue Entry

These are ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs made out of faience. The hieroglyphs shown here include the terms reed flowers, section of a ship's rudder, folded cloth, the cloth band and a wig with feather decorations attached to a flag standard, twisted linen threads, meat, extended arm, feathers attached to a flag standard, throne, pillar, and walking legs. They are glazed in either turquoise or light green and their details are depicted in cobalt. The modeling and glazing is extremely carefully handled and the glaze is of a uniform thickness overall, with the surface of the characters exuding a translucent, shining luster. These characters are thought to have been used for an inscription imbedded into the wooden decorative panels or doors of a temple.
