Catalogue Entry

Semi-spherical bowl cast from translucent cobalt glass. The mouth rim is relatively flat, while the walls of the vessel descend in a smooth curve to the base. There are two thin, horizontal grooves cut into the exterior of the rim, one on the interior, and one on the exterior of the base. Scraping traces can be observed on both the interior and exterior walls, with the overall form polished to a smooth finish. This type of cast glass makes effective use of its translucent quality, particularly in the subtly different placement of grooves on the inner and outer surfaces which can be seen through the translucent body and the beauty of the colors created when light passes through the glass.
